Dear BRLA,
I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all of you.
When you save each and every dog you can, you give us all a chance for a blessing in our lives.
I came up to your Sun Valley shelter a year ago this past July and brought with me my 13 year old Yorkshire Terrier to find a Boxer to fit into our family. We found Simon (a.k.a. "Sammy" at your facility), or should I say, he found us. Whichever the case, he was so gentle with my "little old man" Yorkie. Simon was a beautiful Fawn male whom we guessed to be somewhere between 7 and 9 years old.
We brought him to his new home in Oceanside where he immediately fit into our family as if he'd always been with us. It was easy to see he had seen some pretty hard times - numerous scars over his body and a considerable number of broken teeth. He also had very bad arthritis in one of his legs. However, none of this seemed to bother Simon. He was always so happy it was almost contagious and he made friends with everyone he met, human and canine alike. He was so excited to see us when we came home from work, with a huge smile and body wiggling, he would knock us over in his exuberance. Words simply cannot express the love this dog gave us. We all feel so very blessed to have had him in our family.
On Saturday, September 4th. just after 7:30am we lost this beautiful, gentle spirit. As we were getting up to greet the day our boy suffered a massive heart attack. The pain we feel at losing Simon is overwhelming.
We are all in a daze because it was so sudden and completely unexpected.
Even though we had this angel boy for only little over a year, we would not have traded him for anything and we feel so fortunate to have had him in our lives, brief though it was. I write this letter in honor of Simon. Please let anyone who will listen understand that an older dog that may have some health issues can still be a blessing in their family.
Simon was a very happy dog.
Attached are some of our pictures of Simon for you to share with others so they may see how handsome and happy he was.
Sincerely,
Kelly Freeman
