TRIBUTES: Missy

[CLICK TO RETURN TRIBUTES]

My dear friend Missy died gently and gracefully of old age on Sunday morning, with boxer-friend Max resting at her side, while I was at church.

Missy and Max came home with me from Boxer Rescue of LA on September 12, 2004. I never knew Missy’s actual age, but best estimates put her at 9, maybe 10 when she died.

God is good. Each day is a gift. Love makes life worthwhile, and makes death endurable and transformative.

Missy was sensitive, compassionate, courageous and content with life. Though she had health problems, she was optimistic and other-centered. Though she’d been abandoned twice in her life, she was trusting and affectionate. Though she was blind, she had keen insight.

She never let physical limitations dampen her curiosity and expressiveness. She seemed to weather life’s hard knocks with patience and grace.

I thank God for the privilege of having Missy in my life. She taught me so much about character and genuine love. I miss her very much.
