Ginger - 01/13/2008

Dear Ursula- In April 2005, I adopted Gingersnap.  She was about 9 years old.  Oh, how I grew to love my Ginger-girl!   Joe came over and helped with some training.  He  told me that I needed to be in charge; the problem, he said, was  that I looked at her “like I was in love.”  I was!  She was so sweet.   She was so goofy and funny.   As it turned out,  she was well behaved, except, she did not get along with other dogs.

On Sunday night 01/13/08, at about 11:55 P.M.  Ginger was euthanized. I was right there with her, petting her, talking to her and loving her through my tears. Ginger had lymphoma and lots of problems as a result.  Though she was diagnosed earlier, I really only started noticing subtle changes in her on New Years’ Day 2008.  (I tried one dose of oral chemo on 12/14/07 but her liver could not handle it.)   Things changed quite rapidly over a 2 week period.  It was time to go by Sunday night, she was very uncomfortable and couldn’t even sleep well.

I miss her so very much!  It’s terrible to come home and not see my girl looking out the window waiting  for me.   That’s just the beginning of all of the little moments when I realize she’s no longer here and I feel that loss.  It really is so awful.  I know it will  get  easier with time.

We had a wonderful (almost) 3 years together. We were  both so happy!  So, thank you for Ginger!   By the way, she’s the ONLY dog Boxer Rescue LA introduced me to when I went to adopt a dog.  My friends laugh about it because they say that you knew that she was  perfect for me.  You were right!  We were quite a pair!

I’ll be back one day soon to adopt another dog,  but I need some more time.  I still miss my dog, Ginger.

 Thanks again. -  Julie
