Danny was a character! I sometimes think being one is a prerequisite for a dog that lives in our house. The first day he was with us, he fell in our fish pond. I'm not sure who was more surprised, Danny or the fish. The fish were very pouty that night and would not eat.
Danny had just had surgery when I left him in one area of our yard. He jumped a five foot fence to get to me. A boxer through and through: They must be where the people are!
My twelve year old son had been playing with Danny outside. He came into the house and said, "Mom, Mom, I taught Danny a new trick." I followed my son outside. Child and dog started climbing the jungle-gym and slid down the slide together. I was proud of both of my boys.
Once I had errands to run and I grabbed my purse and keys. Danny started to cry. I had to take him to my husband. My husband reassured Danny I would be back soon. While I was gone my husband loved on Danny and told him he was the "best old dude".
Danny loved pretty girls (the human variety) and girls loved him back. It is too bad he didn't come to BRLA sooner. If a young single man had adopted him, it would have been a great way to pick up girls. Girls would always gravitate toward Danny.
One night when we were walking the dogs two girls walked toward us. Danny and the girls stopped simultaneously, it is as if they had known each other all their lives. He received many pats and lots of praise about him being a great dog!
Danny often visited a local pet hotel. He would get so excited when I told him he was going to see the "pretty girls" there. He would rush to the garage so he could get in the pickup. As soon as we reached the front desk at the hotel the girls would run toward Danny. They would say, "Danny is here!" As I was leaving one of the girls said, "Thank you for bringing Danny - we love him. When I picked Danny up one girl said he was so cute with his ball at play time. I dropped Danny off one Wednesday and he ended up as the only dog at the hotel that day. So the pretty girls played country and western music and the girls and Danny danced the night away.
Danny deserved all the special treatment he received at the end of his life. He was 9 or 10 years old when he was turned into a pound. He had many health problems which we took care of. He was loved by our family and others that meet him. My family and I want to thank Ursula and BRLA for helping us save Danny from the pound. He enriched our lives with his humor and loving personality.
