Recently, (yesterday)my husband and I rescued a boxer from a neighbor. About two months ago, my husband Dane found this dog roaming in the neighborhood and caught him and returned him to his owners. Well, she was due to have a baby soon and didn't think she could take care of the dog, since she had 3 boxer pups at home also. We received a call from the neighbor over the weekend, and she wanted to get rid of the dog. If we didn't take him, he was going back to the humane society. Well, Dane has wanted another boxer all along, since he had one when he was younger who died when he was 14. When we called the neighbor lady back, she told us of his condition. She said he had sunburn. She put it mildly, seeming like it happened to all dogs once in a while. When Dane brought Jake (formerly known as Psycho)home, he had scabs and raw spots along is spine and top of his neck. Immediately, we took Jake to a vet's office that was open on Memorial Day to have him checked out. I was worried about other problems, since I had never seen a dog have sunburn. My husband then told me how he got burned--The lady had him tied up in the middle of the backyard where he could not reach shade. It has been over 100 degrees the last couple of weeks. Anyway, I was very angry about his condition, so we went to the vet immediately. The vet checked out the scabs to make sure it wasn't mange or another infectious skin disease. Also, they weighed him at 45 lbs. So we are to wash him with medicate shampoo and give him lots of vitamins. We plan on giving him lots of affection and taking him camping frequently.
That's Jake's background, but I have some questions perhaps you could answer. 1) We have 2 chihuahuas, and I'm wondering how Boxers are with other dogs. I read that they can handle it if necessary, but would like more details. So far, Jake has ignored them pretty much, but we've been very careful that they don't jump on his back. And we separate them when we are gone. Which leads to my next question-- 2) I have also read about keeping them in a crate-- We have the largest dog taxi they make, is that appropriate to put him in while we are at work? 3) I'm concerned that he will run away--He's neutered-- Do boxers run or could it have been because of his poor living conditions? Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you. We hope that Jake adjusts well, and hopefully with your advise he will get along with our Chihuahuas, Angel and Sinbad.
I have adopted from Boxer Rescue 2 wonderful friends. If my husband and I had a larger home we would add on to our boxer family. Our next home ( in the no too distant future) will have a larger boxer family. You can bet on that! Is Ursula still with the rescue?
Keep up the great work. Barbara

I was interested in getting a boxer but wanted to do some research. I was looking for a dog whose a little younger than the 18 shown so it can get used to me. Also a dog with the right markings such as devin or tiki. I also needed to make sure it was safe b/c i will be living with a fragile lady.
I have my third Boxer, Dixie, which I rescued from the local shelter. She is a small, pretty brindle bundle of muscle and kisses. She is such a good watchdog and so good with my grandson. Of course, she is spoiled rotten. I check your site periodically and so wish I could have more Boxers. Please keep up the good work. I am very staunch and outspoken to people about spay and neutering pets, even to the children I teach. It is in a rural area and parents don't tend to give this much importance. Here's hoping for good homes to all the Boxers now and in the future.
LOVE THOSE BOXERS. I HELP AT THE KENNEL WHEN I AM IN THE LA AREA.
This was my first time on the site. I must say that I am very impressed with the site. What a nice job and easy to get around in. I have a boxer mix of my own that I rescued 3 years ago (off of the street). She is the best thing that has happened to me. I am working my way up to adopting another and will definately adopt from The Boxer Rescue when I am ready. Thank you for providing this site and for all of your hardwork and dedicated staff.
I just love your page! By a boxer´s fan ...
I really love the idea of placing Boxers in good homes. People should start paying alot more attention to there dogs. There is to much of muts all around. People need to be more responsible about there animals. Thanks
