Dear Boxer Rescue,
Words are not enough to describe
how lucky we feel to have found our little girl, a Boxer mix
named Lucy (who you might know as Snickers). We came to Boxer
Rescue in the hopes of being able to find a female boxer with
the same temperament as another dog that my family rescued,
a brindle male named Kahuna, not too long ago. He was by far
the best dog my family ever owned, and we were heartbroken
when he died of cancer too soon after rescuing him. I warned
my fiancé before arriving that we might not be able
to find a dog that we could care for that day. Then we met
Lucy, and we fell in love. My roommate's dog Rocky fell in
love too! We knew this was right, so we made a donation and
took her home with us.
Lucy was very shy when we first
brought her home. She didn't know how to walk on a leash,
and was oftentimes scared of people, including us, which admittedly
hurt us a little! She had a bit of kennel cough at first.
Thankfully, now she is as healthy as ever. She's gained a
lot of needed weight and has definitely grown up - she's got
very long legs and walks like she's a supermodel! Lucy is
still a puppy, and she has tons of puppy energy. Her favorite
pastimes include digging holes, chewing on furniture, eating
(yes, eating) clothes and shoes of all kinds, and learning
to be housetrained. She's still got a lot of learning to do,
but we know she can do it, because she is a very smart girl.
Raising a puppy is frustrating
at times. But all that stress seems to disappear when we walk
in the door at the end of the day to a wiggling, jumping,
happy-to-see-you Lucy, ready to give both of us lots of love
and kisses. She is one of the most independent and stubborn
dogs we have ever met, so when she makes the decision on her
own to climb up and lay on you to give kisses and fall asleep
(another favorite pastime!), you know that she must really
like you.
Thank you all so much for helping
bring Lucy into our lives. We will be eternally grateful to
all of you at Boxer Rescue, and we look forward to being able
to adopt another Boxer soon.
Best wishes,
Nicole and Geoff
