HAPPY ENDINGS: Mugsy & Miki

[CLICK TO RETURN HAPPY ENDINGS]

Happy Holidays BRLA. I've just gotta tell you how much we adore
these two characters, Mugsy (the brindle) and Miki.

I had to put both of my dogs (a rottweiler and a beagle) to sleep in
2005 when they got too old to eat and walk. Two months without any
dogs made our home extremely lonely, so in March, 2006, we made an
appointment to see some of your dogs. Mugsy (known as Bosco at BRLA)
was a skinny, quiet, seemingly well-behaved boy, so we took him
home. A few baths, different meds (for giardia) and a lot
experiments with various food have made him into a gorgeous boy.
He's put on 20 lbs since we got him and he now runs at least three
miles each day with my boyfriend. His paperwork said "fearful" so
we've worked hard to socialize him. K9-Joe (Joe Ramirez) came by and
gave us some pointers. The most important thing Joe did is showed us
what a great dog Mugsy can be, by just showing us how to act around
him. I can now take Mugsy to outdoor concerts in the park, trail
races and art fairs.

Mugsy is still rambunctious with other dogs and often has to have
"time-outs" at day care. So we decided he needed a friend and went
back to BRLA in August, 2006, to meet Miki (formally know as Wilma).
She immediately took to his playing/humping so we brought her home.
They haven't stopped gnawing on each other since, except to wrestle,
box, chase each other or play tug-o-war.

Mugsy was not a touchy-feely guy at first, but Miki's puppy-like
disregard for personal space has broken him from jumping up whenever
anyone touches him. Now Miki can plop down right on top of Mugsy
while he's sleeping and he just moves whatever appendage is loosing
feeling to get the blood circulating again.

Individually, both dogs are great, but I'm still working on handling
both at the same time, especially out on walks or hiking. My goal is
to have two dogs I can take to next summer's concerts in the park, at
the same time.

Thank you BRLA folks, for rescuing these two from overcrowded kill
shelters. In doing so, you've rescued me from a dog-less, boring,
quiet (albeit clean) home and enriched my life in so many ways.
Thank you again for these wonderful pups.
