Please Consider Adopting "THE
LOVEABLE MIXES"!! They are the most wonderful family
members. The added bonus is that you will have a dog that
keeps people guessing as to what they are!
Our story begins sadly.....our beloved Jake (a Pit/Akita/Shepard/Chow
Mix - yes folks crossed the street when they saw us coming).
died very suddenly of lung cancer in January. This came only
3 months after our long-time vet was so tragically killed
in a car accident. As other dog lovers who have lost their
dearest friend know, there are no words to adequately describe
the pain. I still cry as I write this, and it has been 10
months. He was the sweetest, scariest-looking brindle ever,
and especially devoted to his mom (me, of course). We all
know that you can't replace one dog with another....they are
each so special, but I deeply wanted to rescue another soul.
As all of our animals are rescues, we once again knew that
we wanted to adopt an orphan Including our Elder Statesman,
Pete at age 10-a Lab mix, and 2 kitties. I have a fondness
for AmStaff/Mixes...don't let anyone ever tell you they are
not good family dogs....they are the most loving, loyal and,
I must stress-comical! You just must respect what they are
bred for and use caution around other dogs. I understand the
responsibility, and it has been nothing but rewarding. We
now have our 3rd AmStaff Mix!
Always admiring the graceful, beautiful, powerful lines of
the Boxer, I simply searched Google for Boxer rescues, and
there I found BRLA. Still grieving, I signed the guest book,
writing a brief story about what happened to Jake. A BRLA
volunteer saw my letter and invited me to the kennel.
We met Jourdan, another volunteer, who reviewed our needs.
She immediately knew she had the perfect match. She brought
out this little bundle of brindle who leaped into my lap,
kisses for everyone, especially Pete, the Lab. It was over.
Her name was Sweetpea, but we have renamed her Karma, because
she was so meant for us!! There are so many mannerisms identical
to Jake that I swear his soul came back in her because he
wanted to be with us again.
She is the joy in our lives, and is especially close with
our 6-year-old daughter.
We
love her so much, she loves cuddling with me and believes
herself to be a 50 pound lap dog. To this day, I cannot thank
Jourdan enough for finding her for us. We never even considered
looking at another dog. And so, time went on. Karma, being
an energetic young dog of 1, loves to wrestle, and so does
Pete, but it became apparent that all the play was taking
a toll on Pete, he is 10, you know. He would often be stiff
at night. I once again contacted Jourdan to be on the lookout
for that special dog to be Karma's playmate and give poor
Pete a rest. It took a few months, and several dogs, and then
there was Arnie. Intrigued by his photo on the website, I
found out more from Jourdan, and was thrilled he had a natural
tail and ears. The site said he was mixed with American Bulldog,
but our vet believes he is indeed a Boxer/Pit mix. Who knows
for sure? I like to joke that he's half Boxer/Holstein. Again,
a wonderful match!

We
adopted Arnie (now Andy), and after a rough first meeting with
Karma, they have fallen in love and are inseparable. Andy has
completed 4 weeks of obedience training, and is the best-behaved
dog of his class. I have been stopped many, many times by people
wanting to know "What kind of dog IS that?", followed
by: "He is just spectacular", or "What a great
face!"
Is our story convincing enough to persuade you to give those Boxer
Mixes a second look? Go ahead, you'll love them!
Sincerely,
The Goodman's
