GRACIE GEORGE
There are pictures of both George
and Gracie. Gracie has the natural ears and George has the
cropped ears that flop over.
We adopted George 7 years ago.
About a year later we adopted a 1 year old female Martha.
She unfortunately got sick and died about 7 months after we
adopted her.
We knew we would adopt another but thought we would wait.
However, George was so depressed that we knew we would have
to adopt sooner. This was 1998, shortly after the BRLA website
went up. A friend showed us a picture of Gracie (then named
DeeDee) and we went to see her at the BRLA kennel. We brought
her home that day 10/31/98. She has since been a big part
of our family along with George they pretty much run the house.
Recently Gracie was not eating and very sluggish. As my office
is at home I noticed right away. The next day we took her
to our vet. Vanderhhoof Veterinary in Altadena. They took
an x-ray and said everything looked fine, no fever etc. We
took her home and she seemed to get worse over the next 4
days. We took her back on MLK day and they did some bloodwork.
That evening they called us and said they suspected Addisons
disease, a failure of the adrenal glands, fairly uncommon
but not unheard of in 5-6 year olds. We took her the next
morning and they kept her for 2 days. They confirmed the Addisons
which was quite a relief for us as it is very treatable. She
has an injection every 4-6 weeks and takes 5 mg of prednisone
every other day. Within 2 days of returning from the vet she
was completely back to normal. As you can see from the pictures.
