Hello Raphael,
Just wanted to thank you so much
for showing us Dutch yesterday! We love his unique face (he
does look like he's got some Great Dane in him) and his friendliness.
He fit right in with us and has already made us laugh a few
times. He has an awesome personality and he is quite intelligent
as well. He had a stressful day yesterday (meeting new people,
riding in a car for three hours, getting to sniff out a new
backyard, and staring down our neighbors' dogs) but he adjusted
very well. He was shown his new bed (and did not like it at
first) and when it was time to go to sleep, he obediently
went there, curled up and snored the night away.
I thought he had very good (too
good?) house manners - for example, when we would slightly
close the door, he would not push it open but would patiently
wait for us to come out of the room, and when we sat down
to eat, he did not come asking for food but sat quietly outside.
He did not attempt to climb on couches or otherwise impose
on us. It is going to take time before he feels he is truly
a member of our family and get rid of his shyness. I tried
to play ball with him yesterday but he got scared and ran
away (well, it was a big ball but I was surprised at his reaction).
But, today we got him a rope and he pulled and tugged on it
and fetched it and we had a great time playing. We also took
him out for a walk and his leash manners have improved since
yesterday!
Anyhow, I have a lot of impressions
to share (and it's only been one
day!) but maybe I should send you some pictures instead. I
promise to update you on Dutch's progress again in a few weeks.
Once again, thanks so much for
letting us have him!
