HAPPY ENDINGS: Chief

[CLICK TO RETURN HAPPY ENDINGS]

Jan, thank you so much for sending Beth that photo of Churchill a few
weeks back. She in turn sent it to me and I knew he belonged with us.
As you know, last September we rescued our three legged shepherd,
Takoda from the Agoura Shelter, and he has been a wonderful addition to
our family. When we heard that there was a three legged boxer named
Churchill at BRLA I wanted to come see him right away. I grew up with a
boxer and always loved the breed, so the only question was, would
Takoda tolerate, or get along with another dog?

Takoda and Churchill spent a couple hours together at BRLA on May 6th,
and we made arrangements then to bring Churchill home with us on May
13th, and they are getting along very well. Churchill now is known as
CHIEF, named after Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce Indians. We figured
that fit better with TAKODA, which is the Sioux Indian word meaning
"friend to everyone". Chief was shedding so bad from stress, but today
his coat is looking much better.  We were able to give him a bath when
we got him home which helped tremendously!! Just this week he has
started talking to us when we come home or when we are preparing to
feed him. He's enjoying walks with us and is starting to build
up strength in his hind leg.

As you might imagine, the two of them turn a few heads when we are out
on a walk. How many people have two, three legged dogs? We are amazed
at the number of people who have such wonderful things to say to us
about our dogs. Last weekend we had both dogs at PETCO here in town,
and you would have thought I was a Rock Star or something, there were
that many folks asking to pet the dogs, asking about the dogs, just
wanting to see the dogs. I had an older woman say that I was a saint,
and that those dogs sure were lucky to have us. I said no ma'am, we are
the lucky ones. She asked what I meant, and I said that in the scheme
of things, we get far more from them than they get from us, and the
saints are the people at BRLA and all of the other organizations that
saved so many dogs each and every day.

We just wanted you and everyone at BRLA to know how very happy we are
with the addition of CHIEF to our family.

Jay and Beth Border
