Why is it that the prettiest dogs that come into Boxer Rescue are often the ones that were treated the poorest? Safari is a gorgeous Boxer mix; her looks speak for themselves with her beautiful brindle coat, tall, lean physique, bright amber eyes, and dark black mask. What she is mixed with still remains a mystery; some say Lab, others say Mastiff. Unfortunately, Safari's past is not as pretty as her looks. At the tender age of one, Safari is already scared to death of strangers. She's not looking for a fight, you can just tell that she's been handled with a heavy hand. One thing we do know about her past is that her family abandoned her when they moved and left her in their backyard for a week; no food, no water, no one to come by and check on her, nothing. To boot, the family took their other dog with them, leaving Safari without even the companionship of her k-9 brother. Due to the circumstances she was put through, when you first meet Safari, her natural tail is between her legs and she shows distress when someone new approaches. However, once you get to know her, she's all love. She's gotten to know a few of our volunteers and she loves to be petted, get treats, and go for walks with them. Safari needs a family that can understand that a dog with a history like hers needs time, patience, leadership, and stability to build her confidence. If she can warm up to our volunteers as quickly as she has, we know that with the right family, this beautiful girl will thrive.
