Popeye came to BRLA in the summer as Big Papa.  He was in the most deplorable shape any of us had seen.  He looked like a goat.  His owner though his condition was due to chewing termite infested wood and their vets were no help at all, treating his condition as mange and letting his overall health deteriorate. His family ran out of money and options so BRLA stepped in.   Popeye had no hair and his skin was inflamed. His belly was distended and hung down causing his spine and hip bones to stick out like a skeleton. He was a sad sack indeed.  He was sent to our vets for evaluation and we discovered his overall condition was due to a heart condition. Given the right medication and diuretics he lost 10 pounds of fluid in one week.

He is now living a normal life and will continue to do so with just one pill a day. His medication is very inexpensive and give him the luxury of a happy normal very active life.  

Very long story short, this miracle boy is doing great. He lost all the water weight, his fur is l grown in and he now is quite the athlete. We could not be more proud of this miraculous turn around. So now Popeye is looking for someone of his very own. He is now one spunky monkey. He is full of himself and loves people and working on his doggie manners. We’d like him to be an only dog for now so he settle into his new healthy live and start working on his social skills.

Popeye's favorite game is fetch. Our volunteers love to throw toys and Popeye never fails to bring them right back. He is loyal, loving and is more than ready for a home of his own.
