Moose is a very special case and needs a very special home. Many people will be drawn to his stunning good looks but he is not the dog for just anyone. He is scared beyond words and his immediate reaction is to protect himself. He seems more frightened of men. One can only guess that a male was not so nice to this handsome young man.
BRLA volunteers have been working with Moose. Once he feels comfortable with you he begins to lean on you and become more relaxed. Any outside stimulation will put him back on the defense but he is become more desensitized the more we work with him. He walks well on a leash (when he is not leaning on you). Sit and down are yet to come into his vocabulary but he is trying really hard.
We feel an adult only home with calm assertive leadership and a strict routine can make the world of difference for Moose. We will only consider an experienced, gentle home that will help Moose in baby steps to become the dog he could be.
Children are too chaotic for him right now, but in the right hands this gorgeous, frightened boy can bloom into a trusted family member. If you are the right person for Moose you can help him forget his past and develop a happy future.
