Meet Harley, he is a miracle blind Boxer. He does really well around his home and loves his backyard. He enjoys going on leash walks especially when you talk or sing to him along the way so he is re-assured you are still there. He lived with three children ranging from 10 months to 5 years old and he is amazing with them. He is very in touch with kids and very gentle with them. They seem drawn to him as well.
Harley does not like to be crated and does not need to be as he is not destructive when left alone. He maneuvers extremely well around the house and yard as long are you are not constant re-decorator moving furniture often. A boy’s nose can only take so much bumping.
Harley finds himself back at BRLA in need of a new home. He is quiet in his enclosure and looks forward to volunteers visiting him and taking him out on the road for long walks. He is simply amazing to walk and his nose does not miss a thing. It's as if he can see things with his other senses: hearing and scent. A noisy kennel is no place for a blind dog. Harley copes well but we would rather a foster step up and provide him with a more suitable living situation.
Harley would be best as an only dog to start. Since he cannot see, when he encounters a dog his nose takes over, but without sight to recognize the signals strange dogs might be giving as to their intentions do not register with Harley so his defenses take over. He is quick to keep new dogs at a distance for his own protection. He is not aggressive and once settled in a home there is a very good possibility an easy dog could be introduced properly into Harley's life.
In the meantime with just Harley in your home, imagine the satisfaction of knowing the good you would be doing for this young dynamo. Harley loves people. He is very affectionate and gives boxer hugs and kisses just as well and any seeing dog.
