Lucky Dog: Soprano

soprano

Hello to our friends at BRLA!

My husband and I are excited to send you an update on our Boxer, Soprano, formerly known as Boo.

Initially, the name “Soprano,” a reference to the mob boss from the popular HBO series, did not fit our skinny pup. When we first met him, his ribs were visible beneath his mangy coat and he had Kennel Cough. He had had a rough run of it in Bakersfield and was scarred up from a dog fight. But we saw potential in his gentle spirit and eager eyes.

We brought him home, and after a couple weeks, a healthy dose of antibiotics, and a lot of lap time, our pup began to grow into his name. He put on some pounds (all muscle, no Tony Soprano beer gut), he began to hold his head high with confidence, and his coat took on a striking luster. The only evidence of his past life in Bakersfield are a few light scars and one bloodshot eye, (no worries—it hasn’t affected his eyesight at all). Of course, as doting parents, we think the eye is endearing and gives him character, and some of our family members refer to him lovingly as “Scarface.”

Though Soprano looks like a tough guy, at heart he is a lover. His dark days are definitely behind him, and he is enjoying his new life with us. Everyone who meets Soprano cannot help but be charmed by his loving spirit and sense of humor. Soprano will let our nephews pet him and tug at his ears, as he soaks up all the attention. His favorite place to be is in someone’s lap, and he has perfected his Boxer wiggle. And, to our amazement, even the cat, Chloe, (who had been an only child her whole life) has warmed up to him and will let him nuzzle her.

My husband and I truly feel that our life is richer with Soprano in it. He has become a member of our family and we are grateful to all of you at BRLA for giving us the opportunity to adopt Soprano. We have told our family and friends about you and have encouraged them to visit you if they should decide that they want a dog.

All our love,
Moises, Michelle and Soprano Martinez
