Lucky Dog: Philly now Lexi

philly

They say the third time is the charm.  It took Goldilocks three times to find the right porridge, the right chair and the right bed. Meet Philly (now Lexi) who like Goldilocks took three times to find her dream come true…her permanent home.

Philly came to BRLA back in 2007 an adult dog that preferred to be the only dog in the home. She quickly became a favorite of the BRLA volunteers. She even became the photographer’s sidekick.  Many people come to BRLA with an existing pet to match so Philly waited.

Finally a family with two children fell in love with her and off she went.  The kids were too young to walk Philly alone and Dad was responsible. When his work schedule became more demanding, Philly got less attention and began letting herself out. Clearly this was not the right situation for anyone so Philly came back to BRLA.

After another lengthy wait, Philly met a wonderful family with a precious 5 year old daughter who loved this little fawn girl.  Philly turned out to be a little too much to handle while also handling a 5 year old. They were heartbroken as they absolutely loved her. This family could not bear the thought of bringing Philly back to the kennel and worked with BRLA trying to place her with friends and family.  BRLA had faith that they could find Philly the right home so she was brought to a BRLA volunteers home and transported to the kennel.

This was a very sad day for Philly (and her family #2) but also turned out to be the absolute happiest day of her life as this is the day she met the Carmichaels at BRLA.

Philly did not go inside BRLA that Saturday; she sat like a princess in the back of the volunteers SUV with her fluffy bed and her toys all around her. Again she waited uncertain what the day would bring.  When the Carmichaels arrived, they were told about this special Boxer as they didn’t have any other dogs and it was all adult home.  Philly came over to meet them, she realized she was back at BRLA and stood there shaking.  They walked her down the street to get away from all the barking.

When they returned, they admitted they fell in love with her at first sight and hearing how much the family that could not keep her but did everything to find the best for her sealed the deal.  They did not even want to meet any other Boxers. Philly was it for them.

The third time was indeed the charm for this special Boxer now called Lexi.  The Carmichael family could not be happier with the newest love of their lives.  We know that Lexi can finally settle into the rhythm and security of a family that will love her forever.   The Carmichael family have a blog which features Lexi and includes the following tribute.

“We are happy to introduce you to the newest member of our family...Lexi! We adopted her from Boxer Rescue LA just a few weeks ago. We met her on the sidewalk outside Boxer Rescue and instantly fell in love! She is 6 years old and a real sweetie...she has adapted to our family like she's been with us her whole life. She loves to go on walks and is quite pushy about getting us to take her!! She plays with a fleece toy of hers and cracks us up...it's hysterical! We have introduced her to Starbucks where she is treated to a 'Doggy Whip' (whipped cream in a cup) and she loves it...so far she has gotten it at the drive thru and on a walk to the Starbucks closest to where we live. It feels so good to have a pet and she really makes our house feel like a home!”

The moral of this happy ending is to never give up. Everyone’s dream can come true, sometimes it just takes a little longer to make it happen.  Live long and live happy Lexi!
